Assessment and improvement of the existing “Improved Watermills Programme” in Uttarakhand

The objective of the project was to evaluate the status and performance of the existing “Improved Watermill Programme” being implemented in Uttarakhand by UREDA; development of general recommendations for the improvement of the scheme performance, in particular taking into account lessons learned from the Nepal watermill upgrading scheme; documentation of existing business models and providing recommendations for improvement; and establishing linkage with local financial institutions. The services provided by ITPI were organizing kick – off workshop for stakeholders, database preparation through primary survey, and secondary data research that included desktop study and interviews with UREDA officials to establish the background and current status of the different government policies, schemes, released by both state and central government and suggest innovative business models for watermills in Uttarakhand.
