Development of a feasibility study and project document for the East African Centre on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) (2013)

Client: United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Austrian Development Agency

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) were assisting the East African Community (EAC) in the establishment of the East African Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE). The creation of a regional RE&EE promotion agency responds to the difficult energy situation in the EAC countries which are facing the challenges of energy access, energy security and climate change mitigation simultaneously. ITPI assisted UNIDO/ADA in setting up of EACREEE. Broadly, the tasks undertaken as a part of the assignment included baseline study for RE & EE scenario in EAC region, feasibility study for setting up the Centre including identification of location, selection of management and key staff, guidelines and regulations to run the Centre, consultative meeting, stakeholder consultation, and validation workshop. ITPI (as the lead) worked with its sister company ITPE Ltd. UK on this project.
